Exploring Learning Technology: Building My Professional Learning Network

Every year, technology becomes a bigger part of education. Because of this, teachers need to keep learning about new tools and ways to teach. One method that teachers keep up with what's going on is by forming a Professional Learning Network (PLN). A PLN is a set of people, resources, and tools that teachers utilize to share ideas and learn from each other. A lot of the time, these networks are online, such on blogs, websites, and social media sites. Making my own PLN helped me learn more about new concepts and how learning technology is changing.

The Sources I Chose for My PLN

When I was putting together my PLN, I looked at a number of sites that focus on new ideas and technology in education. The 2024 EDUCAUSE Horizon Report was one of the most helpful publications. It talks about new trends and technologies that are changing the way we learn. Many teachers and academics use this study to learn about how technology is changing the way people learn and teach.

I also read articles from EdSurge and Exploding Topics that talk about what's new in educational technology. These websites have the most up-to-date information about the tools, tactics, and ideas that teachers are utilizing in their classrooms right now. The Teacher Challenge website was another useful resource. It shows teachers how to build and grow their own professional learning networks.

I chose these sources because they talk about education and technology and give me credible, up-to-date information. They helped me grasp better how technology is changing the way we study.

How I Talked to My PLN

I looked at numerous online places where teachers share ideas and resources so I could connect with my PLN. One of the most important things I used was blogs. Many instructors write about their experiences in the classroom and how they use technology in their teaching. Blogs give teachers a place to think about their work and exchange useful tips with other teachers.

I also looked at professional websites like EdSurge, which posts articles on new technologies and ideas in education on a regular basis. A lot of teachers also talk to each other on professional networks and social media sites like Twitter. instructors may exchange resources, ask questions, and learn from other instructors all over the world on these platforms.

These tools make it easier for teachers to keep up with new information and keep studying outside of regular professional development.

Five of the most important trends in learning technologies

From the materials in my PLN, I found five major trends in learning technology.

1. AI in the Classroom
AI tools are starting to help kids learn by giving them tutoring, feedback, and lessons that are tailored to them.

2. Learning that is tailored to you
With technology, teachers may change lessons to fit each student's needs so that they can study at their own pace.

3. Learning online and in person
More and more institutions and colleges are offering classes that blend studying in person with learning online.

4. Analytics for Learning
Schools are using data to get a better idea of how students are doing and how to enhance their teaching methods.

5. Networks for Professional Learning
More and more teachers are adopting digital networks to work together, share ideas, and keep learning.

What I Think About These Trends

These trends have a lot of good things about them, but they also have some problems. For instance, AI and learning analytics make people worry about the privacy and security of student data. Schools must make sure that student information is safe and used correctly.

Another problem is that teachers require training to use new technologies in their classrooms in a way that works. If technology isn't used in the right way, it can not help learning at all. There is also the problem of access, since not all pupils have the same access to technology or a dependable internet connection.

Even with these problems, these trends could make education better and give students more flexible ways to learn.

Making a Professional Learning Network helped me learn more about how technology is changing education today. My PLN helped me learn about new ideas, tools, and trends that are changing the way people teach and learn. As technology keeps getting better, teachers need to keep learning and changing with it. A solid PLN may help teachers stay up to date, work with others, and get better at what they do.

About Me

My name is Sue Kaufmann, and I am working on getting my Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction right now. I want to know how technology can aid teachers and make learning better for students. As a teacher, I want to look into new ways and technologies that can make learning more interesting and useful for my pupils. This blog will be a space for me to think about new learning tools and how they may be used in schools.

Comments

  1. Susann, as a teacher, I am also becoming increasingly concerned about the use of AI in schools. I thought as an elementary teacher I had nothing to worry about. This year, I was sadly proven wrong. One of my school's 5th grade students used AI to take her entire I-Ready diagnostic test. This obviously made her perform at a ridiculously high level. This has really sparked conversation at my school surrounding how we will go about taking measures against the use of AI.
